Obituary for David L. Grasmere

David L. Grasmere
David Le Neve Grasmere
Loved music and VW microbuses

LITCHFIELD – David Le Neve Grasmere, 71, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, 6 a.m., at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, from complications resulting from cancer.
He leaves his wife, Jean Grasmere and her companion, Peter Hume; his elder daughter, Jessica Grasmere, and her companion, Phil Myers; his younger daughter, Malie Grasmere and her husband, Peter Spangenberg; and his two grandchildren, Meghan Spangenberg and Jaden Spangenberg.
David was born in Norwalk and raised in Redding, the son of Muriel and Roy Grasmere. He worked for 25 years at New Milford Volkswagen, a fitting vocation for his love of cars.
David was an outstanding musician who played clarinet, guitar, saxophone and piano, and sang vocals. He started playing professional gigs at 17, in his band The Kents, which also performed for the USO at several Air Force bases.
With his wife, Jean, he instilled in his daughters and his grandchildren a love of music from early childhood. David was also an avid and meticulous videographer who never missed a single performance of his children or grandchildren.
David was not only beloved by his close family, but also by a large and vibrant community of music lovers, as well as his longtime colleagues and friends at New Milford Volkswagen. David was known for his generous spirit, his concern for others, his love of cars and music.
This is a man who would drop anything to help those he cared about. His favorite music was jazz, his favorite car was the VW Microbus, and his favorite musical group was his grandkids’ band, the Kais and Dollz.
We invite you to join us for a “Must Have Music” memorial celebration for David on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Crystal Peak in Winsted. There will be time to greet his family from 10 to 10:30, followed by sharing and music starting at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, we welcome donations to one or more of the following charities: Hurricane Relief Community Recovery Fund (mariafund.org); Waterwheel Foundation (phish.com/waterwheel); or White Memorial Foundation (whitememorialcc.org).
