Obituary for Lawrence Ansel Adkins Sr.

Lawrence Ansel Adkins, Sr.
Army Veteran

Harwinton – On Dec. 30th heaven welcomed another star. Larry was born Oct. 22, 1925 to Louise and Ansel Adkins and grew up in Plymouth. On Apr. 3, 1944 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in numerous battle campaigns in Europe. His Military Honors included the combat infantry badge and two bronze stars. One story he enjoyed sharing was how a locket his sweetheart gave him saved his life. He carried that bullet-creased heart with him always. And 71 years later, Jean is still the love of his life.

Family and friends gathered at the cottage on Lake Waramaug for many years to swim, fish, boat and share good times. Larry enjoyed hunting and ice fishing as well. Many will remember those trips to Maine for a long time.

A brother Raymond preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory, are his wife Jean, sons; Larry and his wife Mary of Torrington, Ross and his wife JaneAnn of Litchfield, Dale and his wife Becky of Harwinton and daughter Terry of Maine, four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. All services will be private. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Plymouth.
