Odon  Gaspar
MORRIS – Odon Gaspar, 91, passed away March 17, 2017, peacefully meeting his Maker. He was born on May 29, 1925 in Budapest, Hungary. Mr. Gaspar served his native country during World War II, as a Lieutenant in the Hungarian infantry. He and his wife braved the dead of winter in 1957 to escape communism during the Hungarian Revolution with their two small children. In his new home, with just the clothes on their backs, he started life anew in the United States at age 31. He and his family settled in Mount Vernon, NY, where he became an American citizen, went back to school and worked for many years as a successful computer programmer. He was employed by the Mount Vernon Board of Education (NY). He and his wife retired to Morris, CT to be near his daughter and her family. He was a graceful, elegant and gentle man who lived his life with great dignity. Mr. Gaspar always loved, protected and nurtured his family in their adopted country while preserving a deep respect for their Hungarian culture.
He is preceded in death by his wife Suzanna Gaspar, 2006. He is survived by his son, Laszlo (Vicki) Gaspar of Cheney, KS., daughter, Suzanne Shrady of Clarkston, MI., granddaughter, Mialy Shrady (Ryan Wolf) of Troy, MI., grandson, Alex (Kelly) Shrady and great grandson, Joseph Shrady of Sterling, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, March 24, at 11:00 AM, at Our Lady of Grace in Bantam, 715 Bantam Road, Bantam, CT 06750. Burial will be private.
