Obituary for William L. Taft

Torrington- William L. Taft, 85, of Torrington passed away on August 24, 2015 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Celestine Clark Taft. Bill was born on July 1, 1930 in Mendon, MA to the late George K. Taft and Lois (Lawrence) Taft.

He was a naval veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Purdy. He had been a resident of Goshen, CT for over 50 years and was a plumber for the J.O Anderson Company in Litchfield, CT until he retired.

Bill had built his Goshen home and loved woodworking along with hiking, camping, and boating. He was always happy to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, he leave his son William C. Taft and wife Sara of E. Otis, MA, a brothers; George Taft of Log Cabin City, TX, Richard Taft and wife Linda of E. Haven, CT. Sisters; Betty Zager of Eden Praise, MN, Priscilla Alvord and husband Dick Marten of Lebanon, NH, Hazel Wellins of Easton, MA a brother in law Dr. Warren S. Clark and wife Virginia of Elmhurst, IL, three grandchildren Bruce Taft, Matthew and Andrew Kaszycki, Four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son Keith Taft, a brother Donald Taft and sisters Doris Spofford and Joyce Quigley.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on September 12, 2015 at 1:00pm at Bantam Cemetery.
