Obituary for Frances Priscilla Krukar

Frances Priscilla Krukar
Frances Krukar
Goshen - On Monday, April 16, 2018, choirs of angels sang Frances to her heavenly rest. Frances was born in Naugatuck, CT on April 27, 1918 to John and Julia{Rupenski} Kovaleski. She was the second of six children. Their family was raised in Thomaston on a fruit farm, and Fran often wrote in later years of her fond experiences there while growing up. It was there that Fran met the love of her life Ed, when his mother visited the farm with her sons to buy fruit, and subsequently invited Fran and her sister Helen to their dairy farm in Goshen for a weekend. Fran knew right away Ed was the one, and they married years later on September 2, 1940 and enjoyed 67 years of marriage.

As a farmer’s wife and mother of six she was very busy, but managed to find time in the winter to become a weather reporter for the electric company, alerting them to unique storm and icing conditions on the power lines. She was happy to spend her $50 annual salary to purchase Christmas presents for her family.

Fran was very active in the church, singing in the choir, laundering and ironing the altar linens, and being a life-long member of the Ladies Guild. In her later years she taught catechism and volunteered for Hospice. She loved gardening and created beautiful English style gardens at her home on North Street, and later on West Street. She made many friendships with strangers who stopped by to admire her beautiful flowering creations. She continued writing to friends and relatives until near the end of her life, relating interesting stories of her childhood and life's experiences. She loved her family and friends and welcomed all into her home for good conversation and delicious homemade pie.

She is survived by her son Edward Krukar Jr. from Torrington, daughters Nancy Timbrell in Berlin, with whom she made her home, Marjorie Krukar from Reno, Nevada, and Katherine Krukar from Chesapeake City Maryland, also 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren. Frances is predeceased by her husband, Edward Krukar and her two children; Priscilla Pink and Andrew Krukar.

Friends may call on Friday, April 20th from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT and also on Saturday the 21st from 10:00 to 11:00am followed by a funeral mass at St. Thomas Church in Goshen at 11:30am.
