Obituary for Albertus D. "Bert" Vogt III

Albertus D. Vogt (Bert) passed away on April 3rd, 2014, surrounded by friends and family, ending his long 9 year battle with multiple cancers.

Bert was a brilliant musician, having begun his career playing piano and oboe, eventually being awarded first chair Oboist with the All-American Orchestra. He appeared on the Ted Mac Show, playing piano. His interest grew to the pipe organ, where his magnificent talents truly blossomed. He became the youngest head organist at St. Edward’s Cathedral in Palm Beach, FL at the age of 15. He was the Music Director at St. James Catholic Church in Manchester, CT. Most recently, he was named Organist Emeritus at The Milton Congregational Church in Milton (Litchfield) CT.

Bert had many varied interests, including raising birds – cross breeding them to achieve fantastic colors. He was also an avid gardener and his plants were effusive in color and rarity.

Bert is survived by his sister, Lois V. Pike, her husband, Wilbur L. Pike, his niece, Alayne Washburn and her two sons, Ethan Washburn and Graham Washburn, along with his niece, Amy Anderson and her two daughters Kendra Anderson and Olivia Morales. Other survivors include first cousins, Gloria Scandariato, of Palm Coast, FL, John Vogt and his wife, Toni, of Tallahassee, FL, Mary Garling of Harleysville, PA and numerous second cousins.

Bert’s extended family includes Wilbur’s sister, MaryJane Fisher, her husband Tom Fisher of Westbrook, Ct, son Patrick Fisher and his wife, Leah Fisher, of Rocky Hill, CT. , also Wilbur’s daughter, Cory Pike, her husband Mark Goddard, and their two children Eve Goddard and Glen Goddard of Salt Lake City, UT, along with numerous friends located all over the country.

Bert had a unique gift in making quick and life-long friends. Those who knew Bert will mourn the loss of their good friend and his magical music talents.

Memorial service will be held at The Milton Congregational Church, in Milton (Litchfield) CT at 2:00PM on April 26, 2014. Burial will immediately follow the service at Milton Cemetery.
