Obituary for Dorothy Zenowich

Ridgefield, CT – Dorothy E. (Karl) Zenowich died Tuesday, January 10th, 2017, at Laurel Ridge Health Care Center after an arduous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Dorothy grew up in Litchfield, CT, and later settled in Morris, CT, with her husband, Paul G. Zenowich, to raise their family. A Registered Nurse, who ultimately became the Head Nurse of IV Therapy at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, CT, and President of the National Intravenous Therapy Association, Dorothy received her degree from the renowned St. Luke’s School of Nursing in New York, NY, as did her sisters Marjorie and Anne.

While she aspired to one day write a great story, her life’s work took a more technical turn as she authored numerous articles about IV therapy management and IV flow control that were published in professional journals such as the Journal of Infusion Nursing. She was known to extend her nursing talent to family and friends whenever someone was in need of care or advice. A lover of classical music, reading and the arts, she instilled those passions in her children and made sure, along with Paul, that they were well educated in a broad range of subjects. Whether it was frequent trips to the Oliver Wolcott Library, or blasting Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus while cleaning house, she let these passions infiltrate even the dullest moments in their lives.

She is survived by a son, Daniel Zenowich and his wife Judith of Neshanic Station, NJ, a daughter, Elizabeth Cauchon and her husband Stephen of Ridgefield, CT, four grandchildren (Zoe, Karl, Renee and Avery), a great granddaughter (Saga), a brother, John Karl of Toledo, OH, two sisters, Anne Karl of Boston, MA; and Judith Rasero and her husband Lawrence of Hockessin, DE, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and beyond!
She was pre-deceased by her husband Paul, her son Chris, her sisters Joan and Marjorie, her brother Fred, and another brother who chose to leave this world on the same day she did, Joseph Kasper “Kap” Karl, who passed peacefully on January 10th, 2017, just hours after Dorothy.

Private services will be held by the family.
