Obituary for Barbara Joan Fincken

Barbara Joan  Fincken
Litchfield – Barbara Joan Fincken, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2018. She was the loving wife of 51 years to the late Frederick J. Fincken, Jr. who recently passed on
July 15,, 2018.

Barbara was born on August 21, 1941 in Valley Stream, New York to the late Vincent and Adelaide (Nilsen) Donaruma.

She was a BA graduate of Davis & Elkins College, where she was an active member of Phi Mu. She later received a Masters of Education from Central Connecticut State University. Barbara was a teacher at the Harwinton Consolidated School for 23 years until her retirement in 2002, when she became a private educational tutor and author of several children’s books.

Barbara was very active in Harwinton and the extended communities. She was a member of the Harwinton Tennis Club, The Litchfield Writer’s Guild and the Harwinton Congregational Church. She had previously served on several committees in town, as well as on the Board of the Susan B. Anthony Project and as a mentor to at-risk youth.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband, she had three daughters and nine grandchildren, and was actively involved in each of their lives. Second to the love of her family was the affection she had for her numerous friends and pets. A social butterfly by nature, Barbara was passionate about entertaining. She loved the sun, spending time at the beach, traveling, gardening, book club, reading, cooking and sharing her famous homemade baked goods with the people she loved.

She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Fagan of Herndon, VA, Kristen Mahan-Kraut of Litchfield and Jennifer Rauschmayer of Plano, TX; nine grandchildren, Connor, Bennett, Kirsten and Dylan Fagan; Emily and Caroline Mahan and Clayton and Elizabeth Rauschmayer; her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Valerie Donaruma, her cousin Christine Mulvihill and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter Maegan Rauchmayer on June, 16, 2001.

A Memorial Service will be held this Saturday, October 27th at 1:00 p.m. at the Harwinton Congregational Church, 1 Litchfield Road, Harwinton, Connecticut.
