Obituary for Joseph Roger Brogis

Joseph R. Brogis
Loving father, grandfather and son
BANTAM – Joseph R. Brogis, 70, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Wolcott Hall Nursing Center in Torrington, CT, after a brave and courageous battle with brain cancer. He was the loving husband of the late Phyllis M. Brogis.
Born on July 23, 1947 in Torrington, CT, he was the son of Joseph C. Brogis and the late Elaine J. (Larrow) Brogis. Mr. Brogis graduated from Torrington High School in 1965. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged in August of 1972. Joe was a toolmaker by trade, as well as a machinist. Over the years, he worked at The Torrington Company, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, and Risdon Corporation.
A longtime resident of Bantam, Joe was a hard worker, who was never idle and could always be found fixing, building, or restoring something. His many hobbies included history, model trains, cruising with his wife and parents, pheasant hunting, and loving all types of animals. He especially liked to attend flea markets and swap meets for the chance to find a good bargain, or meeting up with family or friends for breakfast. However, his most cherished activities were always those that included his granddaughter, Brooke. They could be seen together at local fairs, car shows, the Wamogo Tractor Restoration Club, and Brooke’s many field hockey games.
Mr. Brogis will be forever loved and remembered by his family. He is survived by his daughter Lynn Brogis-Niemetz and her husband, Tony, of Upper Marlboro, MD; daughter Joann Healy and her husband, Jack, of Litchfield; granddaughter Brooke Healy of Litchfield; and father Joseph C. Brogis of Torrington. He also leaves his brother, Roger Brogis and his wife, Joanne; his brother, Brian Brogis and his wife, June; his brother Jeffrey Brogis; his sister-in-law, Elaine Makowski; his sister-in-law, Florence Albrycht and her husband, Ron; as well as several nephews, nieces, and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Wolcott Hall and VITAS for their compassionate care and support of Mr. Brogis and his family during his final months.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11:30AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South Street, Litchfield. The burial will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Bantam. Relatives and friends may visit with Mr. Brogis’ family on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 5 to 8PM at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT 06759.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Better Life Fund for Wolcott Hall, 215 Forest Street, Torrington, CT 06790.
