Obituary for Doris Emma Richard

Doris Emma Richard,
Loved Traveling, Fun Loving Aunt, Family Historian

Torrington Doris Emma Richard, 92, passed away on February 21, 2018 at Brookdale in Torrington. She was born on December 12, 1925 in Torrington, CT to the late Zelim Adolf and Waldburga (Ackerman) Richard.

Dorie lived in the Richard family home in Milton for over 60 years, then moved to Torrington where she lived until moving to Brookdale in 2012. She spent her entire career working as a banker for Torrington Savings Bank.

She enjoyed volunteering for the American Red Cross, especially blood mobile drives. She was a lifelong and very active member of Milton Congregational Church, where she attended services each week up until last fall.

Dorie loved to travel, both in the United States and abroad. She vacationed in Rockport/ Gloucester every summer with her sister Kay and often visited out of state relatives. She was the keeper of the family’s history and cared for her sisters in their later years. Even as her memory started to decline Dorie remained fashionable and socially active. While residing at Brookdale her favorite activities were the entertainment programs, especially Meg, the music therapist who visited the memory care unit.

Doris was the youngest of ten siblings, all of whom predeceased her. There were five brothers, Robert, Walter, Oscar, George, Kenneth and four sisters, Isabelle, Ruth (Gray, Peck), Lillian (Sepples) and Katherine (Ur). She is survived by ten nieces and nephews who are spread throughout the country.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Milton Congregational Church, 548 Milton Road, Litchfield, CT 06759.
