BANKING EXECUTIVE

Litchfield - Wilmot Buddington (Bud) Ebbs born on August 28, 1928 in Waterbury, Connecticut passed away on April 20, 2017.
Predeceased by his parents Victor W. Ebbs and Rhoda Dains Ebbs and his first wife Mary (Slason) Ebbs and his sisters Polly Duncan and Marilyn Curry.
Bud leaves his wife of almost 40 years, Ellen (Reiley) Ebbs and six children: Mary Tanguay (Fran), Paul Ebbs (Patricia), Donna Piwaworski (David), Susan Murphy (David), Kerrin Anderson, and Michael Reilly. Bud was “Poppy” to eleven grandchildren: Larissa, Audra, Ellen Marie, Colin, Michelle, Keira, Connor, Alexa, Kyle, Ryan and Graydon, and four great grandchildren: Zachery, Dakota, Mya and Carter, and several nieces and nephews.
Bud graduated from Leavenworth High School in Waterbury and joined the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Was a graduate of Connecticut School of Savings Banking at the University of Bridgeport as well as New Haven College and Brown University American Institute Of Banking. He had a lifetime career in banking starting out at Waterbury Savings Bank, then went on to become Vice President at Mechanics Savings Bank in Winsted. Changing directions, he took a position as an accountant at Friedberg Smith in Bridgeport, CT., but decided he really missed the banking milieu and took a position as Senior Vice President/ Chief Financial Officer at Litchfield Bancorp until he retired in 1994.
Bud was very involved in civic organizations. While in Waterbury he served as President of the Waterbury Chapter of the American Institute of Banking, was a founder and past president of the Watertown-Oakville Chamber of Commerce, he was a past President of the Rotary Club of Watertown, Treasurer of Winsted Rotary, served on the Board of Finance in Morris and spent many years as Treasurer for the Sanctum Club of Litchfield and remained as a governor until his passing.
Bud was a congregant at the First Congregational Church of Litchfield and on occasion joined his wife in the celebration of Mass at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees baseball team and NY Giants football team. He was a very good athlete in his youth and enjoyed playing basketball and was a gifted baseball player, and played into his 50’s. In High School he was spotted by a talent scout and had a tryout with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff on the 5th and 6th floor and the ICU at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for the exceptional care provided, as well as the staff at Rosehaven Nursing Home, VNA Northwest and the many years of care provided by Dr. Steven Bryant. We would also like to express our thanks to Bud’s many friends for providing him with encouragement and conversation during his last days. We will miss the kindest, most gentle and caring man that God put on this earth.
