Litchfield – Richard “Dick” Dauphinais, 73, passed away on January 5, 2017 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth (Williamson) Dauphinais.

Dick was born on May 3, 1943 in Middlebury, Connecticut to the late Henry and Martha (Lanouette) Dauphinais. Dick grew up in Oakville/Watertown and was a 1961 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury. He worked for Tyler Automatic, County Line Motors, Wilson Dodge, and the State of Connecticut DOT as a Crew Leader. In his retirement, he continued to hold numerous jobs in the area, including Rowe Funeral Home, Education Connection, and Central Lumber, to name just a few.

Dick moved to Bantam/Litchfield in 1963 and devoted his years to serving his community. He served on the Board of Finance, the Board of Selectman, and was a member of the Litchfield and Bantam Fire Departments. He was on the board of the Litchfield Chapter of the American Red Cross, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a past president of the Torrington Soup Kitchen. He was also a driver for the Waterbury Malta Van. Dick enjoyed volunteering at the Abbey of Regina Laudis as well as at the Lourdes in Litchfield Shrine. Dick was happiest when spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, working in his enormous garden, clamming in Rhode Island, and following UConn women’s basketball.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Liz, Dick is survived by two daughters, Lori Schneider and her husband, Keith, of Morris, and Michele “Missy” Deacon and her husband, Jim, of Litchfield; Five grandchildren, Peter, Mikaela, and Danny Schneider, and Jessica and Garrett Deacon; His sister, Janice Donahue of Torrington, his sister-in-law, Vicki Dauphinais of Bantam, and several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his brother, Francis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at noon at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South Street, Litchfield, CT 06759. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT 06759.
