LITCHFIELD -- Harold Wicks, 91 of Litchfield passed away at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington at 11:30 pm on July 2, 2016 after a brief illness. Harold was born on August 11, 1924 in South Fork, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Elizabeth and Joseph Wicks. He served in the United States Army during World War II on the island of Leyte in the Philippines. He was a member of the Army Air Corps and Signal Corps. He graduated from Penn State University in 1950. He became a manufacturing engineer starting his career with Pittsburgh Plate Glass in its Research & Development Division and finishing his career as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at AMF Cuno in Meriden Connecticut.

Harold married Rose Deleon Wicks, in 1950. Harold and Rose had six children together and moved to Litchfield in 1960. In 1971 Rose passed away. In 1973 Harold married Doreen Wicks, and created a blended family including her two children from a previous marriage. Harold built his family’s home himself and together with Doreen raised eight children there. Doreen and Harold were married until her death in 2013. Harold had a deep appreciation for family. He remained close to his mother, sister Betty and brother Earl throughout his life. He took great pride in each of his children and their families.

Harold leaves behind his children Jan Wicks of Terryville, Jeffrey Wicks of Arlington, Virginia, Kim Maiorano and her husband Al of Bethany; Carrie Wicks of Hamden, Lorry Hyland and her husband David of Bristol, Glenn Wicks and his wife Kathryn of Falls Church, Virginia; stepchildren, Tab Offner and his wife Donna of Hudson, Wisconsin and Tracey Wicks of Litchfield. The Wicks family would especially like to thank Mike Grella, of Litchfield. Harold deeply appreciated Mike for his friendship over the many years and many times expressed how lucky he was to have the Grella’s as his neighbor. Our family cannot adequately express our gratitude for the kindness he has shown our family as well as the care and attention given to our father and mother over these many years.
