LITCHFIELD - Robert James Barry of Litchfield, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center in Torrington from complications due to from Alzheimer’s Disease.

He was born in Litchfield on March 8, 1930, to the late Theodore P. and Theresa R. (Blazek) Barry of Litchfield. He was married for 54 years to the late Caroline Julia (Kneisler) Barry.

He left Litchfield High School after 11th grade to work for the family business, Barry Construction, and went on to become a mechanic for Connecticut Milk Producers Association, International Harvester, Morola Motors, and in 1997 retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation. He earned his State High School Diploma in 1967. He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1954, during the Korean War, aboard the USS Caperton and USS Arcadia.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Caroline “Lynn” Fairchild and her husband, Joel, of Northfield; his two sons, Robert T. Barry and his wife, Tamara (Tragakiss), of Harwinton, and William E. Barry of Agawam, MA; his beloved granddaughters, Janet L. Gueli of Thomaston and Toby L. Barry of Harwinton; and two great-granddaughters, Kara L. Gueli and McKenzie L. Gauthier. He also leaves his brother Francis J. Barry of Litchfield, many nieces and nephews, as well as many wonderful caregivers. He was predeceased by his brothers, Theodore and James, and his sister, Elizabeth Richardson.

A private graveside service with military honors was held on Monday, September 11, 2017.
