Obituary for John B. Fabbri

John B. Fabbri of 435 Winthrop St. in Torrington died on July 17, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born on October 4, 1954, the son of the late David T. Fabbri and Ruth (Barry) Fabbri.

He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1972; He was employee of the Brookfield Public School System for years. He was also employed at the First National Bank of Litchfield/Union Savings Bank for 33 years. John received a BA and BFA from University of Connecticut in an honors program. He was certified as a public school teacher through Central Connecticut State University and received his MS from Western Connecticut State University in elementary curriculum. He was a nine year student of Teachers College at Columbia University in New York City. Fabbri was a member of the Democratic Town Committee in Litchfield. He volunteered with MDA for several years. He was the treasurer of the Litchfield Heart Fund and Catholic Family Services “The Clothes Tree” board of directors. He was treasurer for the Litchfield Land Trust and the Tunxis Valley Boy Scouts. He did volunteer work for the March of Dimes and for Juvenile Diabetes Association. Along with Albert Coffill, he created the Litchfield Area Arts Council. He was an officer of Penny Lane Players and Torrington Civic Theatre. He was a member of The Goshen Players, The Litchfield Players and worked extensively with the American Theatre Ensemble, The Warner Theatre and The Thomaston Opera House. For four years, he taught on the faculty of the Warner Theatre Center for Arts Education. He served as tax collector for the Borough of Litchfield and the Town of Litchfield. He was also a teacher for the American Institute of Banking.

John was a gentleman, a civilized, educated, sensitive, well-manned man; a scholar; a man of a gentle, kind nature.

Fabbri was a member of Connecticut Education Association and served as curriculum leader and mentor through the State of Connecticut BEST program. In 2003 he was recognized as the Brookfield District “Teacher of the Year”.

He received several awards as an actor. He was noted for singing at many weddings, religious events, and community activities. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Torrington.

He is survived by his brother Thomas Fabbri ( and his wife Susan Fortin Fabbri) of Fort Meyers , FL and their children; Thomas (Brooke Justice), Kevin (Jessica Ladmar) and Kelly Caner (Daniel). He is also survived by extended family members; Cara and John Battistoni of Torrington and William Mooney IV of Torrington (Danielle) and Moira Wood of Bantam, Katelyn Mooney of MA and Dorette Moreo of Greenwich. This is in addition to many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is also survived by nieces Peyton Fabbri, Avery Fabbri, Lily Fabbri, Nathan Caner and Emma Mooney and nephew Devin Mooney. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Peggy Fabbri and relatives William, Michael, Kevin and Sandra Mooney, Allen Wood, Peggy and John Kuibeda.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, CT 06790. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 2:00-4:00pm at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT 06759. Burial is private.
