John Olear Jr.
John Olear, 92, husband of the late Judith (Elwell) Olear, died on May 6, 2018, while in the loving care of Miller Memorial Community, Meriden. Mr. Olear was born on August 3, 1925 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late John and Anna Olear. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II, having served on the Destroyer Escort, USS Kyne with the Pacific Fleet. John was a true lover of all animals.
A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he was a Professional Structural Engineer, licensed in New York and Connecticut.
For many years he was a Project Manager in Corporate Engineering at Dorr-Oliver Inc, Stamford, CT, retiring in 1984. He then became associated with the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation as an Engineer on Bridge and Highway rehabilitation, until 1992 when he retired to Washington Depot, CT. Prior to retirement he was a resident of Cheshire, CT for 35 years.
In addition to his wife, John was predeceased by a sister, Mrs Olga (Olear) Laylon and a brother, Philip Olear.
He is survived by a daughter, Tracey (Olear) Struble and husband Joseph of Meriden, CT; two sons Mark Olear and wife Dep of Geneva, IL; and William R. Olear of Cheshire, CT. In addition, John leaves four grandchildren; Rachael Olear, Rebecca Olear, Stephen Struble, and Elizabeth (Struble) Floyd, a great-grandson Camden Floyd, and one sister Joan (Olear) Nalband of Southbury, CT.
A service will be held at SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Meriden, CT on Monday, May 14 at 9:30 am followed by a military burial at the VA Cemetery, Middletown, CT. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are being made by Rowe Funeral Home, Litchfield, CT.
