William Ambrose O’Hara, Jr., passed August 10, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Elena O’Hara. Bill was formerly a longtime resident of Washington, CT where he had owned The Armoury.
He was born in New York, NY on December 15, 1926 the son of the late William Ambrose O’Hara, Sr. and Evelyn (Pottberg) O’Hara.
Bill attended the Loomis-Chaffee School and was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII. Following his honorable discharge he graduated from Adelphi University with a degree in business.
Earlier in life Bill was a New Jersey State Police Officer for two years, before working for Olin Winchester as President of Western Sales and Operations for International. He then moved to Washington, CT and worked at Colt Firearms. In 1968 he opened The Armoury which he ran for 32 years. He was an expert in all types of firearms, especially antiques. Bill was also a Lifetime NRA member, a certified instructor and a trap shooter. He was an avid hunter, having traveled the world many times, and a private pilot.
In addition to his wife Elena, Bill is survived by two daughters; Elizabeth O’Hara Lee and William Christine Durkin, eight grandchildren; Hunter, Karrick and Brogan Lee and Tristen, Thomas, Jordan, Stevie-Ann and McKenzie Durkin, a great- grandson, Julien and two step children; Christine and Edward.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00am at St. Casimir Church, Allen Street, Terryville. Burial will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7pm at the Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT.
