Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother

Litchfield - Elmira Bastianello, 97, passed away on November 24, 2017 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of Peter J. Bastianello Sr. She was born on February 23, 1920 in North Adams, Massachusetts to the late Alexander and Katherine (Sudowska) Zubrowski.

Like many women of her era Elmira put her family first. She worked as a waitress at the Torrington Diner and Yankee Pedlar to help her husband so her children could have nice clothes, an annual vacation at Cape Cod and go to college. She put together many a “care package” and sent them off to her two sons while they were serving in Vietnam.

She met her husband at a dance and when he was in the Army/Air Force would take a bus or train to visit him at one of his many bases from Vermont to Alabama where they married.

She was a great cook, fastidious housekeeper and enjoyed gardening, the New York Jets/Joe Namath and the Brooklyn Dodgers. After retirement they took long vacations to Myrtle Beach and Florida.

She is predeceased by several sisters and brothers, her brother and sister-in-law and her sweet granddaughter Corrine.

She is survived by her husband, Peter, two sons; Peter Bastianello Jr. and his wife Rita of Thomaston and Dennis Bastianello and his wife Mary of Harwinton, her daughter Pamela Bastianello of Barkhamsted, her granddaughter Reagan Bastianello and three great grandchildren; Ainsley, Bailee and Calleigh all of Harwinton.

We extend much gratitude to her many caregivers in particular Jean and Tina. Her husband Peter was her most loyal advocate and supporter.
