Obituary for Allan B. Rowe

Allan B.  Rowe
St. Augustine, FL - Allan B. Rowe, 73, formerly of Torrington and Goshen, CT died November 16th after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of late Miriam Magnuson Rowe. Allan was born July 2nd, 1943 in Torrington, he is the son of late Clarence H. and Janet Benson Rowe. He graduated from Wamogo Regional High School in 1961. He was an active member of the National Ski Patrol during his latter high school years.

He immediately entered the US Navy Medical Corp after graduation, where he served 3 years. He continued his education at Dean Junior College. He owned and operated City Ambulance Company in Torrington, one of the first ambulance services to provide advanced life support in the area. He then continued his paramedic career with Broward County in Florida.

He continued his training at Broward Community College, South Tech Fire College, and was the oldest graduate of Mcfatter Vo-Tech Firefighter School at the time of his graduation. Allan spent 24 years as a paramedic-firefighter in Broward County, FL.

In addition to his career with Broward County, he also owned and operated Ro-TransWeeHaul Moving Company, Inc. for 40 years, traveling over 1 million safe miles. Once retired, he restored an all-aluminum 1947 Peterbilt truck and a 1971 GMC ladder truck.

Allan was a member of the International Association of Firefighters, the American Legion, life member of the Owner/Operators Independent Driver’s Association, the American Truck Historical Society, and the Antique Fire Truck Association.

He is survived by a daughter Amanda and husband Andrew Fowler; two sisters, Carolyn R. Perkins and Lisa R. Camac; brother Bradford Rowe and wife Carol; mother-in-law Veda Magnuson; two sisters-in-law, Mary Christofferson and husband Walter, Martha Magnuson and Ann Conway; brother-in-law Norman Magnuson and wife Wendy; 8 nieces, 6 nephews, 10 grandnieces, and 5 grandnephews.

Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery Torrington, CT. A memorial service will be held at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road Litchfield, CT at 1 PM on December 17th. In lieu of flowers, Allan requested contributions be made to the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, Allan & Mimi Rowe Memorial Scholarship Fund.
